In a special event gathering friends and art lovers, Wadi 99 Art Gallery hosted the launch and book signing of ‘Itirafat Rassam Kharej El Dawam’ by the cartoonist Mutaz Sawaf. Along with the book launch, a selection of original drawings by the artist are exhibited and available for sale.
living between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, is passionate about comic and cartoons. After graduating from the American University of Beirut (class of 74) with a degree in architectural engineering, Sawaf perused his passion for comic art and obtained a diploma in the art of cartooning from the Bob Godfrey Studio in London in 1975. Sawaf worked for a renowned animation studio in 1996 and returned to architecture and engineering a year later.
An established Lebanese businessman
In 1999, Sawaf established ‘Hazar Graphics’, a company specializing in children’s books and comic magazines reflecting societal and political topics. Sawaf published ‘Chillat Azo’, his first limited edition comic book, depicting satirically the sociopolitical situation in Lebanon during the 1975 civil war and its aftermath.
‘Itirafat Rassam Kharej El Dawam’ gathers Sawaf’s life experiences for the past 20 years in his unique humorous and satirical comic style and will be a available at Wadi 99 Art Gallery untill 1 February 2025. All the proceeds of this special event will be donated to the Sawaf Foundation for charitable work.
